About Rebecca King

b. 1986
Rebecca's work moves fluidly between abstraction and landscape, tied together by the common thread of memory. She explores how our perception of place inevitably shifts—what begins as a distinct memory softens over time, dissolving into an impression, an emotional resonance rather than a fixed image.

Her visual background began in design and architecture, where she earned a formal education in interior design and architecture at the University of Texas, San Antonio. Working in architecture firms, she developed a deep appreciation for space and how environments shape human experience. This foundation in design became the lens through which Rebecca approaches her painting practice. Drawn instinctively to water, she blends this understanding with her art, balancing fluidity with intention. Her canvas becomes a conduit for both intuition and design, where organic forms emerge, shift, and flow, echoing the natural movement of water while subtly nodding to the rhythm of built spaces.

Water plays a central role in her creative process, acting as both a guide and an unpredictable force. She manipulates its movement across the canvas, allowing it to carve pathways and reveal layers that might otherwise remain unseen. This delicate balance—between surrender and control, intuition and intention—is where her work takes shape.

Through atmospheric washes of color and interwoven forms, Rebecca’s paintings become meditative yet methodical, evoking a quiet familiarity. They invite the viewer to lose and rediscover themselves, much like the way memories shift and reshape within us.

"As an artist, I find myself returning to water—its movement, its memory, its quiet persistence. Painting is my way of searching, of tracing what was and what could be. Like water shaping the land, my work seeks to reveal the unseen, allowing me to reconnect—with God, with myself, and with others—through shifting layers of color and form."
